Reaching the Unreached in Niger, West Africa
Vie Abondante (Abundant Life), an indigenous church-planting ministry works together as a team of missionaries from the U.S. and Nigeria. There are 30 Vie Abondante church plants throughout the nation, all pastored by nationals (former Muslims) trained in this ministry.
Some of the ministries of Vie Abondante in Niger include:
Church Planting/Construction - There are now 30 Vie Abondante church plants throughout the nation, all pastored by nationals (former Muslims) trained in this ministry.
Bible Schools - Two schools (Hausa in Maradi and Zarma in Niamey) offer one-year discipleship and one year leadership courses. All new believers are encouraged to attend the discipleship year. As new converts come out of Islam, it is imperative for the Word to be put in their hearts. The leadership school is for those that have a recognized call to ministry to be trained for evangelism and pastoring of new churches. We endeavor to reach and train the indigenes of the nation for maximum growth and ongoing development.
Childrens Ministry - we believe that reaching the children is a key to reaching Niger. They are the seed of the nation. (Almost 50% of Niger’s population is 14 and under). The children are reached through children’s camps, weekly children’s services, puppet ministry, & Sunday School throughout all our church plants.
Primary School - our goal is for our school to be a self-supporting Christian outreach into a Muslim community who will send their children to a private Christian school for the sake of education. We began our school in the 2005/06 school year and currently have two 3 classroom blocks. In partnership with Oral Roberts Ministries we are building a primary school compound in Niamey which we hope will open for the 2009/10 school year.
Evangelism - mobilizing nationals to reach new locations. We currently have outreaches in areas of the Hausa, Zarma, Kanuri, Gourmantchi and Fulani people groups. A powerful testimony to unbelievers is water baptism of new converts. The baptisms are done in the open by digging a ‘grave’, lining it with a plastic tarp and filling it with water from the village well.
Relief Food - One of the main causes of the high infant mortality and child mortality rates in Niger is because of poor health conditions and inadequate nutrition. Our ministry helps to facilitate getting nutritious food to the people.
Healing Crusade - In January 2007 Vie Abondante helped organise the first ever Christian crusade in the nations history. Richard Roberts delivered the gospel and the spirit of God touched many lives with healing power. Over 3,000 salavtion cards were filled out!
Radio ministry - Listening to the radio is a large part of the culture in Niger. Since 1998 our radio programs have given people an opportunity to hear the Gospel in the privacy of their own homes.
Literacy programs - The literacy rate in Niger is about 17%. We provide literacy training in our discipleship school, and in villages where we have churches.
